Privacy

DegreeMapper does not require you to sign in, and we do not collect personally identifying information from visitors. We do not run forms, we do not run quizzes that capture your contact details, and we do not transmit your activity to admissions offices, lead-generation services, or third-party data brokers. The site is a reference for prospective community-college students, guidance counselors, and researchers; we hold no commercial interest in steering you toward any particular institution, and we do not sell access to you to anyone who does.

We use standard web-server access logs to operate the site, which include your IP address and basic request metadata such as the URL requested, the time of the request, the HTTP response code, the user-agent string sent by your browser, and the referring URL if present. These logs are retained only as long as needed to operate the service, diagnose technical issues, and detect abusive traffic patterns; they are not joined against any external dataset and they are not shared with third parties except as required by law. We may use a privacy-respecting analytics tool to count page views and broadly understand which content is most useful; if so, that tool is configured not to set persistent identifiers and not to fingerprint visitors.

The only third-party network requests this site initiates on your behalf when you load a page are to Google Fonts to retrieve the typefaces used in the layout. If you would prefer not to load those fonts, your browser's content-blocking extensions can disable them and the site will fall back to your system serif and sans-serif faces without loss of legibility. External links from inside articles to authoritative sources (the U.S. Department of Education, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, the National Center for Education Statistics) are followed only when you click them.

If we display advertising on the site in the future (currently disabled), the advertising network may use cookies in accordance with its own privacy policy. We will identify the advertising network here when it is enabled, link to its privacy policy, and describe any choices you have to opt out. Until then, the site sets no advertising or marketing cookies of any kind. We do not participate in cross-site tracking, behavioral retargeting, or any of the other practices that have made commercial education websites distrusted by the audiences they serve.

Questions about this policy or about how we handle a specific concern should be directed through the contact information on our about page. If you are a student or guardian making a college decision and you would prefer that no record of your visit be retained at all, you can use a private-browsing window and a VPN; the site is fully readable in either configuration.
